I have to admit to never having seen either of the action adventures based on the toy line and animated series G.I. JOE. As soon as THE MUMMY director Stephen Sommers was attached to the first film I switched off, while the director of a Justin Bieber concert movie for the sequel didn’t fill me with joy either. Researching reviews and it seems the right decision was made overall. “Guilty pleasure” or “Sh*t” the most commonly used phrases.
So, will I be seeing Paramount Pictures third instalment? Probably not, even if the name being bandied out is a more logical fit.
Reports are surfacing that powerhouse producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and the man in charge of the franchise wants Martin Campbell to helm G.I. JOE 3. If the name escapes you, he’s directed some pretty awesome films over the years which include Bond brilliant adventures GOLDENEYE and CASINO ROYALE, enjoyable sword-swinging adventure THE MASK OF ZORRO, as well as a gritty remake of his own award-winning British drama EDGE OF DARKNESS.
Unfortunately, Campbell’s last film was the 2011 comic-book crapfest GREEN LANTERN (which may be why he hasn’t worked for three years).
Would Campbell do you if he was confirmed as director? We’d love to know.
