Negotiations are expected to follow as director James Foley is offered the directing job for FIFTY SHADES DARKER, the long anticipated sequel to this year’s FIFTY SHADES OF GREY. About two weeks ago, Universal made it known that they had their eyes set on Foley to take that directing chair for the erotic drama. Sam-Taylor Johnson did announce that she will not be returning for the sequel, so on to the next! The steamy flick broke box office records this year in over 11 countries. It reigned $166,147,885 in the US box offices and hopes to even surpass that.
James Foley seems like an unlikely director for the job, but he hasn’t been under the rock this whole time, either! His recent works have been directing 12 episodes of Netflix’s political drama HOUSE OF CARDS and a twisting episode of FOX’s WAYWARD PINES. Two very awesome shows (and two of my favorites)! I would also like to give him kudos for an oldie but a goldie; the real estate drama GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS. Foley’s portfolio of works are very decent, but will he help make the FIFTY SHADES OF GREY series a promising experience? Really, who knows?
It’s gonna be a red hot Valentine’s Day in two years because FIFTY SHADES DARKER is said to be released no later than the 14th February, 2017. Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan will be reprising their roles as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, and full casting is expected to continue later on this year once Foley closes the deal. Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti, and the series author E.L. James will be producing it, and the production of the film is set to begin early next year.
