So much news is being devoted to Lionsgate’s now fully cast POWER RANGERS movie, it’s easy to forget that POWER RANGERS still exists on the small screen! Earlier today, it was announced that Saban Brands had registered the trademark “Ninja Steel”, effectively confirming the upcoming entry in POWER RANGERS following POWER RANGERS DINO SUPER CHARGE.
Whilst an offocial announcement is to come, fans have already put two and two together and deduced that DINO CHARGE’s follow-up will be titled POWER RANGERS NINJA STEEL. Interestingly, this also means that for the second time, Saban will be skipping an entire entry in the SUPER SENTAI series on which POWER RANGERS is based.
In-between DINO CHARGE’s source material, KYORYUGER, and NINJA STEEL’s NINNINGER, there exists the immensely kid-friendly RESSHA SENTAI TOQGER, a train-themed SUPER SENTAI with emphasis on the power of imagination. Such was the reaction by Saban that there were rumours they would skip TOQGER once DINO CHARGE would be done and over.
As mentioned, this is not the first time Saban has pulled such a move, having passed over the spy-themed GOBUSTERS in favour of KYORYUGER when piecing together the follow-up to POWER RANGERS SUPER MEGAFORCE.
Whilst the themes of locomotives and imagination may have payed off with POWER RANGERS’ younger fans, TOQGER has since grown a reputation for being one of the most child-friendly SUPER SENTAI’s in the franchise’s 40-year history, meaning the more older fans will perhaps be breathing a sigh of relief right about now.
POWER RANGERS SUPER DINO CHARGE, part two of the DINO CHARGE instalment, premiers on Nickelodeon on January the 30th. Lionsgate’s reboot film is still sticking to its early 2017 release, and the current SUPER SENTAI, NINNINGER, will reach its finale in early February, and be replaced by the animal-themed DOUBUTSU SENTAI ZYUOHGER.
