The MAZE RUNNER, the latest young adult series to hit the big screen, hasn’t hit the numbers as TWILIGHT and THE HUNGER GAMES, although the series has been fairly enjoyable so far. A third and likely final film has been in production, with shooting being last month in March, however the film had to stop production due to an injury lead actor Dylan O’Brien suffered whilst shooting.
O’Brien had a pretty nasty accident in early March suffering from concussion and facial fractures, but we all thought shooting would pick up not long after. Turns out O’Brien still isn’t in a fit state to get back into the role, which has led FOX to stop production of the film.
The third instalment, MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE, stopped production for what FOX presumed would be a few weeks, however due to production still not being picked up, the studio has been led to close down production of the film. The schedule planned to pick production back up on May 9th but as we draw closer to that date FOX pulled the plug sending the cast and crew home. FOX stated that a date will be re-schedueld to pick up shooting once again “depending on Dylan O’Brien’s recovery.”
FOX made this statement in regards to the film stopping production:
“The resumption of principal photography on Maze Runner: The Death Cure has been further delayed to allow Dylan O’Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible.”
Originally, MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE was planned for a February 17, 2017 release, but with production stopping for now an unknown date, we doubt we’ll see that date be hit.
