To say that Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot of GHOSTBUSTERS has been unfairly criticized is an understatement. Despite a rather poor first trailer (and marginally improved follow up trailers!) fans of the original refuse to accept a female-led GHOSTBUSTERS film.
Well, those “fans” might be in for a shock, as original Ghostbuster himself Dan Aykroyd says the new film surpasses the original.
Posting on his Whosays page, Aykroyd said:
“As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I’m paying to see that and bringing all my friends!”
Chances are this will not change the opinion of those dedicated to despise this film, despite having not seen it yet. Most likely Aykroyd’s quote will be discredited by fans as he has a vested interest in the film’s success (he is credited as an Executive Producer). While that may be a perfectly valid point, the fact that he has seen the full film should hold more weight then it probably will.
Anyway, GHOSTBUSTERS opens on 15th July. Hopefully it is as good as Aykroyd says!
