SUICIDE SQUAD news is reeling in with everyone of the cast doing press tours right now for the film. Of course we’re getting a massive amount of news on what’s going on and their thoughts on the film and future of the DC Universe, but little quiet Katana, who’ll be featuring in the film and wielding her sword, made some statements of her own on what could happen.
Karen Fukuhara, who’ll be playing Katana, said in a recent interview she’d love to continue with the character in either a SUICIDE SQUAD sequel, or even a spin-off of her own character as she now knows loads about who she’s playing from the comics.
“I’d like to explore where she’s from, what kind of training she comes from – if she gets a stand-alone movie that would be awesome!” Fukuhara said with a huge, hopeful grin. “There’s so much story from the point of her husband’s death to her story leading up to Suicide Squad – that’s something that I’d love to show on the screen.”
Of course we won’t be seeing spin-off films for every character in SUICIDE SQUAD, but the ones that have been rumoured are for Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Will Smith’s Deadshot, but even for their characters I think there’s too much area to touch in the DC comics to give off spin-offs.
Now, I’m not massive knowledgable on the Katana history, but I wouldn’t mind seeing some sort of origins, or even seeing more of her character in a sequel if it happens. We’re gathering certain actors will be holding onto these roles for a while, with Deadshot rumoured to be in the solo BATMAN film and Harley Quinn also possibly showing up in that, plus Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang could always appear in the FLASH film in a few years as well.
SUICIDE SQUAD hits theatres August 5.
