Joaquin Phoenix is set to reunite with director Gus Van Sant on his planned biopic of controversial US cartoonist John Callahan.
Callahan made was a quadriplegic at the age of 21 after a alcohol-fuelled car accident, undeterred, however, he went on to become a popular cartoonist who would be published in the New Yorker, Penthouse and Playboy, among others. He received praise and criticism in equal measure for his work because he was unafraid to tackle the difficult subjects.
Callahan died in 2010, but a planned film about him has been in various stages of development since 1989 when he published his autobiography titled Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot The film came to Van Sant back in 2001 when Robin Williams brought it to him and he’s been with it ever since and now, with Annonymous Content and Iconoclast Films working together, the film may actually come to fruition.
Phoenix was last seen in IRRANTIONAL MAN last year but has MARY MAGDALENE, FAR BRIGHT STAR and YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE all set for next year. Van Sant has been working in television recently and has WHEN WE RISE set for the small screen next year.
