One of Disney’s in-development live-action adaptations is MULAN and they’ve found a director in the form of Niki Caro for the film.

Caro last directed 2015’s MCFARLAND and is currently working on CALLAS with Noomi Rapace but she will helm this live-action take on the legendary story of a warrior woman who disguises herself a man in order to take her father’s place in the army.

Disney are very keen to avoid white-washing this film and have been working alongside Chinese cultural consultants and Bill Kong. Disney also shifted their attention to a hiring a female director when Ang Lee and Jiang Wen passed on the project with Caro beating Patty Jenkins, Michelle MacLaren and Leslie Linka Glatter to nab the gig.

Caro has THE ZOOKEEPER’S WIFE, as well as CALLAS, arriving sometime this year.
