In what may be the most surprising news of the year so far, Mel Gibson is in talks with Warner Bros. to direct SUICIDE SQUAD 2.

This decision comes despite the negativity surrounded SUICIDE SQUAD when it was released last year, though it did do solid business at the box office. Gibson and Warner are in very early talks on this one, but the interest has been shown on both sides but given how early this is it can still fall apart.

Gibson is on the up lately and seemingly welcomed back into Hollywood after the success of HACKSAW RIDGE, which has earned an Oscar nomination for the film and himself. As a director, Gibson has THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST: RESURRECTION set for 2019 and TV series THE BARBARY COAST with Kate Hudson and Kurt Russell. In front of the camera, he’s working on DADDY’S HOME 2 and then DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE with Vince Vaughn after finishing THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN.
