CBS have given a straight-to-series order for BIG BANG THEORY spin-off YOUNG SHELDON and have Jon Favreau set to direct the pilot.

Favreau, who’s recently been working on “live-action” adaptations for Disney (he most recently did THE JUNGLE BOOK and has THE LION KING next) will be an executive producer on the first episode alongside Jim Parsons, who conceived of the idea, with Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro who will serve as show runner.

YOUNG SHELDON has Iain Armitage set for the lead role and will adopt Parsons as the narrator for the episodes. The series will be set in Texas and feature Sheldon’s interactions with his family in what’s being compared to MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE. Zoe Perry will take the role of the mother, Raegan Revard as the twin sister with Montana Jordan as Sheldon’s brother and Lance Barber as the father.
